Which Wich Sends “Flagged” Bags Filled With Treats to U.S. Troops Overseas

Remember that little promotion called Flag Your Bag? You know, the one where we asked our guests to draw their best patriotic doodles on the backs of their sandwich bags to say thanks to our troops serving overseas? Well, we finally gathered up all of the "flagged bags"--aren't they snazzy?--and stuffed them full of cookies, brownies, and Wich Krispies. Also included in each bag was a letter from chief vibe officer Jeff Sinelli, thanking them for their bravery and service. (Aw.) Then we boxed up the bags, dropped off the packages at the post office, and blew them a little kiss goodbye.

So how did we know where to send the care packages? We asked our Facebook fans, natch, and they provided addresses for their loved ones stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. (Thank you Leah Guffey Banister, Lauren Nygard, Tiffany Rodriguez, Tina Smith, and Kathy Davenport.) Everybody keep your fingers crossed that the boxes arrive safely!

Congratulations to the Winners of the First-ever Flag Your Bag Contest

The “likes” are in, and congratulations are in order for Caroline Kohler Radtke, Dan Gremminger, and Bhavna Sharma, who came in first, second, and third in the inaugural Which Wich Flag Your Bag contest. (Pictured, left to right: Caroline, Bhavna, and Dan.) Grand prize winner Caroline, a graphic designer by trade, says she loved this contest because it got her back to her roots: drawing with pencils, pens, markers, chalk, and, of course, Sharpies! She says the design popped into her head one day while she was running. “I rely on my running for two things,” she says. “My sanity and good design ideas.”

For the Which Wich Flag Your Bag contest, guests were asked to draw their best patriotic doodles on the backs of their sandwich bags and upload pictures of the bags to our Facebook wall. We were blown away by the quality and creativity of the submissions! The competition was fierce, but it was all for a good cause (and we’re not just talking about gift cards, people): to say thank you to the U.S. troops who protect our freedom every day. The winning bags—and all others gathered from our more than 100 stores—will be sent overseas in a care package filled with cookies, brownies, and Wich Krispies. Thank you to all of the “artists” who participated and to those of you who voted. And best wiches to the troops!

To celebrate the 4th of July—and to honor U.S. troops—Which Wich launched the Flag Your Bag promotion. Guests are invited to draw their best red-and-blue doodles, take a picture of their patriotic bags, upload their photo to the wall on Facebook.com/WhichWich, and tag themselves to their photos. The bag with the most "likes" will receive a $500 gift card to Which Wich; second and third place will get a $250 and $100 gift card, respectively. The contest ends July 11 at 11:59 p.m., and all the bags will be boxed up and sent to the troops overseas so they "get the picture" of how grateful we are for their service.
