Which Wich Employee of the Year Awards

At Which Wich, we believe superior employees are the key to maintaining a superior concept. In order to honor some of our exceptional "ambassadors of the brand," we have created the first annual Employee of the Year Awards.  Each Which Wich operator will choose one of their employees at each WW location who they believe exhibited superior service to both the customers and the brand in the last year.  The operators will comment to this blog post with the employee's name, store location, reason they chose the employee as employee of the year, the employee's shoe size, and finally, sign off with a positive vibe.  Winners must be posted here by the end of December (the blog is the ONLY way to enter!)  Then, Which Wich corporate will have special edition yellow and black VANS made for each Employee of the Year and will ship them to the appropriate WW locations.

Which Wich customers, we'd love to hear your favorite employees too!  Feel free to comment here to mention any WW team members that provided you with superior service and superior wiches.  Don't forget to mention the WW location!

Pictures of Employees of the Year should be sent to blog@whichwich.com.

I was at the WW location on Barbara Jordon this week and came in contact with a very friendly and entertaining person. He was very friendly and enguaged in conversation with everyone in the place. You would think he was running for president or something, he talked to everyone in a genuine manner. I sat back and watched him as he worked the crowd. I have never seen a manager as involved in his store as he was. I dont know his name, but he was a young guy with balck and blond hair.
He was very kind and made my friend laugh, and she hadnt smiled in a week!

I would like to nominate Blair Mossman for the employee of the year. She has been with us since day one and has never missed a day. She comes in early and stays late, she trains other employees like a pro, and she never messes up sandwiches. She is fast and accurate and has a great vibe about her. We never have to tell her what to do, she is always on 'automatic', which is a great stress relief for management. She is a hard worker, and she is never late, even though she is a single mom of a beautiful little girl. We love having her as a shift lead. She is definately my pick for EOY! - Georgia Estes

Brian and I are very lucky to have a great staff, half of which have been with us since the beginning. We knew we could only choose one to receive this great award, so….. it had to be Gabriela Rosario. She has been with us for nine months and in those nine months has proven to be a huge asset to our restaurant. Gabby’s perfection to make each Wich the best, (no matter how weird they get), her punctuality she has never missed or called out for a shift in nine months. We can count on Gabby to be there for us if a fellow employee does call out. Finally her determination to be the best employee, trainer and leader each day, knowing there is always room for improvement. Gabby welcomes each guest with a warm hello, and will go above and beyond to make the guests experience one they will not soon forget. She is well aware that you only get one chance to make a first impression in this very competitive industry, so it better be a good one. Brian and I never thought we would find someone who cared about our restaurant as much as we do. For this reason and many others, Which Wich Arlington Highlands proudly nominates Gabriela Rosario as our Employee of the Year. Congratulations Gabby and thank you for all you do…

Even though our location is not open yet, I would like to put in a good word for the young lady who will be my manager, Rachel. She is currently manager at my other business, were she manages 24 employees. She has already begun getting the word out about our Which Wich coming to our town Stephenville, Texas and the folks are getting excited. I know she will not be in the running for this, but I feel that our employees are are greatest asset and when the oppurtunity arises to thank them and recognize them we need to do so...because as owners we could do none of what we do with out great employees standing beside us. When we have employees who love and embrace this GREAT brand as much as us the owners do....that is what makes us shine.

I would like to nominate Anna Uriquez for employee of the year. She has been with my team since the very beginning and treats the store as her own. She is a hard worker and is never late. We call her the "Mom" of the store. Every time I have walked into the store she has had a big smile on her face which is infectious. I am happy to have her on our team.

Which Wich Downtown nominates Margarita for Employee of the Year. She is a Which Wich star as is evidenced by the fact that we only need the one name to identify her! You all know her, she has trained many of our GMs and Franchisees. Margarita is a shining example of the type of impact that one person can have on an entire system. We are all better operators due to many of her efforts. Personally, I feel Margarita is an irreplacable member of our team at the Downtown location. She always has a smile on her face and is willing to do whatever is needed to maintain the smooth operation of this location or to help out in teaching others how their's may run more smoothly. Margarita is clearly my pick for Employee of the Year!

Choosing one person for employee of the year is difficult but it would definitely be Carrie Eberhard. This is Carrie's first job and she has done a tremendous job since we opened earlier this year. Carrie is our best register person handling each customer in a friendly but efficient manner. She is constantly busy even as she takes care of each customer. When she opens, she gets everything done quickly and efficiently. I wish I could clone her work ethic. She is pleasant and easy to work with. Carrie is definitely our employee of the year. Thanks for all you do Carrie. (Size8)

Hiring a staff in an area where 'people don't have to work' was supposed to be a challenge. We found the people that 'want to work' and be part of something unique and awesome...the vibe.

I truly would nominate the entire opening staff of the Southlake Which Wich. While only open 6 weeks, we have lost only 1 team member from a starting base of over 20...and continue to add to it thanks to the great job our team does attracting more guests and team members.

Narrowing it down, I would select George Phillips and Charles Woodard. Both have been promoted to Supervisors and taken on a bigger role.

George just has the vibe. From being a 'radio announcer' at P4 making picking up your wich fun, to being a great host and wicked prep guy. George even got his picture in the Carroll newspaper when they featured the store in an article.

Charles joined us from a large coffee chain (Fivebucks I think) and has provided us great ideas on wrapping and storing cheese, improving par level sheets and making great shakes. Listen to your employees - they have great suggestions. He now gets to 'manage the vibe' with our awesome night crew.

It saddens me to leave out the rest of the team who have truly helped Which Wich become a part of the Southlake community. They rock and have the vibe - congrats to everyone and thank you!

I also want to thank our guests such as David, Ken, Dennis, Frank, Brian, Brian, Sandy, Terri, the employees from AT&T, Jared's, Toni & Guy and countless others who have redeemed multiple loyalty cards and bring a face to the brand we work so hard for everyday. Which Wich truly loves Southlake. Thank you all!

I would like to nominate Patty Nino for employee of the year for Lubbock, TX location. Although we have only been opened for a short time, Patty has demonstrated a strong work ethic(as evidenced by her long hours) and a dedication to WW by learning WW specs quickly and sharing her knowledge with other employees without reservations. Her high standards at all times inspire other team members to do better and be the best they can be. Patty's dedication, loyalty and dependability helped to make the opening of this Which Wich more a pleasure and less challenging then it could have been. Patty's continued hard work and dedication deserve to be rewarded.
Her shoe size is 10. Patty was hired on Nov.4, 2007 and is a crew leader at Texas Tech Which Wich.

The OU Which Wich would like to nominate Joel Caram for Employee of the Year. He has been my most devoted employee throughout my time here. He is always up to doing anything you or I need him to do. He takes it upon himself to improve our storerooms to be more productive. He is awesome with our guests, and has made friends with our regulars. The crew loves to work with him, He IS part of our family. I do not think things would be going so smoothly if it weren't for Joel helping me. I never have a problem leaving him in charge, He does a great job.
January 31st will be his 1 year anniversary with Which Wich?.
He wants those shoes so bad. His size is 11.5

I would like to nominate Kalen Capps for Employee of the Year for Willowbend. Kalen is a Which Wich fanatic and it shows in all that she does....which is a ton! She has been instrumental in increasing sales and quality scores as well as minimizing costs. Customers constantly rave about her outgoing, customer service approach. She has been known to go to booster mom's houses to procure catering orders and make it easy for them and their busy schedules. She also has helped booster mom's with school events by doing research for them. Kalen also temporarily relocated to College Station for 6weeks to get that store up and running smoothly and did a bang up job. Kalen goes above and beyond the call of duty every day and we are so proud to have her on our team in Plano.
Her shoe size is 8.

Maria Torres came here from Mexico just two years ago, was hired at Which Wich and has never looked back! In this short time, she has managed to learn english, become accustomed to the American way of life and become one of the best Which Wich team members we have! Maria is everything Which Wich wants in a team member. She is eager to learn, performs every aspect of her job to exact Which Wich specifications (and expects the same of her co-workers!), and is always smiling and friendly to our guests. Maria has also trained new employees at the opening of Which Wich at Texas A&M. Most importantly, Maria is always thankful for the opportunity Which Wich has given her to support herself in a new country and help her family in Mexico, and she demonstrates this daily on the job. I would like to nominate Maria Torres for Employee of the Year for Lakeside Market, Plano, TX. Her shoe size is 7.

For University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ Which Wich, I would like to co-nominate 2 outstanding team members who are equally deserving in every way.
Samantha “Sam” Paulison is one of our original team members. From opening day, Sam’s incredible work ethic, upbeat attitude and eye for detail make her a natural leader. Now one of our supervisors, Sam’s buoyant, take charge style motivates our team members to provide a superior customer experience. Jokingly referred to as “mom” by her fellow team members, she truly makes Which Wich? an enjoyable place to work. From everyone here in Tucson, we’d like to thank Sam for her hard work and dedication.
“Crazy” Ray Daniels has been part of our team since opening day. His nickname came from his ever energetic personality, and unrelenting work ethic. Always on the move, Ray’s dedication is an inspiration to the rest of his team and is always available to the staff for guidance and a pat on the back. He is known for greeting customers with a smile and a handshake, making him one of our guest’s most recognizable faces.
Samantha's shoe size is 9.5 and Ray's is a size 12.

SUNSET VALLEY TEXAS - This store has been the presented us with the biggest staffing challenges thus far. With all of changes and the high volume this store presented this year, this winner has perservered thru it all.
The Sunset Valley staff has chosen:
Juana Castro has the Employee of the Year.

Juana came on board a few weeks from Day 1. Juana trained at our Downtown location, and immediately let it be known that she was a "team" player.

Juana has done a fantastic job at adapting to all the challenges that have come her way, not only does she know how to successfully work the busiest of shifts, but she makes sure her staff is having fun thru it all. Juana has a great relationship with her staff, and never ceases to give a compliment or a critisism when needed.

GREAT JOB JUANA, see you next year in the WINNERS CIRCLE

We would like to nominate Javier Bonacic for 2007 Employee of the Year honors. He is a perfect example of the career opportunities available at Which Wich. Javier was one of Cool Springs’ original employees. He joined us as an inexperienced crew member, rose to Shift Leader, then the Assistant Manager and is now our successful Restaurant Manager! To get to this level Javier not only had to demonstrate mastery of all things Which Wich, but also made the difficult leap from “hanging with the crew” to “managing the crew”. The most amazing thing is that he accomplished all of this as a 19-year old from Chile. Javier also found time in 2007 to marry his beautiful wife Leyli. Shoe size 10 ½ .

Wich Kudos to Javier, the Captain of our Cool Springs’ ship.

We would like to nominate Angie Johnson for 2007 Employee of the Year honors. Angie was one of West End’s original team members and has shined as our line anchor at Position 3 (aka “the hot corner”). She has mastered the position in one of the busiest restaurants in the system, and rules her position like a pro. Always steady, she never panics and always keeps the 1-2 team on their toes. And don’t even think about sending her a Wich that is short bacon, grilled onions or mushrooms……or you will get THE LOOK!!! Angie is joined at the 3-4 board by her niece (Dee), who Angie recruited for us. On her own time Angie keeps busy as a grandmother. Shoe size 9 (Women’s).

Wich Kudos to Angie, the Anchor of our “Vandy - Wich Relay Team”.
